My father, Jack Paramore, died a year ago this month from kidney failure. The last 6 months of his life was a crash course in what I didn’t know about chronic kidney disease. It was overwhelming and I felt impotent as I tried to help him navigate care.
In his honor, my first official RxUtility post highlights Farxiga popular medication used to treat CKD, heart failure, and type 2 diabetes. Farxiga can be pretty expensive if you have a high deductible or high copay. List price (per ChatGPT4) is $778 per month. You can get it for $550 per month (on average) if you use a pharmacy discount card (per multiple Googles) and pay cash.
But there’s better news. The manufacturer, AstraZeneca (AZ), offers a coupon that can be used with or without insurance. If you have commercial insurance, AZ will cover your copay and you will pay $0. Yes, zero dollars. If you don’t have insurance and need to pay cash, AZ will cap your out-of-pocket expenses at $150. Either way, the best deal for YOU, the consumer, is to use the AZ coupon. AZ is one of our favorites because they give you two options and because you don’t have to fill out a stupid 10-page form to get the coupon.
My new company, RxUtility, makes this coupon (and over 1,000 others) easily available through a simple API. Whether your software supports consumers at the pharmacy counter, employers trying to save money, providers making treatment decisions, or care managers helping with medication adherence, RxUtility is a tool you can use.
